Wilhelmina Kinnear was left for dead after she was attacked inside her Hazendal home on Tuesday night.
It’s believed she had also been assaulted during the attack.
Yesterday residents living in the road were too scared to speak to the media.
A large chain was locked around the gate of the house in the quiet road.
Family, who were later seen entering the house, said they were still too traumatised to speak.
A neighbour described the granny as a “nice old lady who was very giving”.
“She always gave food to children and loved helping others in the community,” the man said.
It’s believed Wilhelmina’s body was discovered by her grandson.
Police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana says no one has been arrested.
“A case of murder is under investigation,” she says.
“Police attended to the complaint in Herbrand Street, Hazendal, on (Tuesday) night at about 8.50pm and found the body of a 83-year-old female with a stab wound. The victim was declared dead on the scene.
“No one has been arrested at this stage,” she says.
