They will be honoured during the Annual Teaching Awards, which recognise excellence, professionalism, and provide the education fraternity with the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of outstanding teachers.
“Often our teachers are not recognised for the important roles they play in our schools, despite the fact that these days, being a teacher requires much more than delivering a quality curriculum for our learners. Many of our teachers have to face ongoing challenges such as poverty, gang violence, abuse and crime,” said Schäfer.
“I therefore call on learners and teachers to submit names to the school nomination teams of teachers and principals who are outstanding examples of educators, and who are making a massive difference in our schools and communities."
Schäfer said all teachers, governing bodies and district officials were invited to submit nominations, based on the criteria contained in the nomination and information guide on https://wcedonline.westerncape.gov.za/national-teaching-awards.
