A young Mitchells Plain biker died in a horror crash on Jakes Gerwel Drive on Thursday morning.
A section of the road was closed off for most of the morning after the biker, Danyal Slamang, collided with a pedestrian about 9am.
The pedestrian also died.
Danyal’s heartbroken cousin, Adeeb Slamang, says the family heard the terrible news after a picture of his bike was posted on a chat site.
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, confirms: “At about 9am police attended to a fatal accident occurred on Jakes Gerwel Drive just past the Govan Mbeki off-ramp.
“A culpable homicide case was registered for investigation. According to reports a 26-year-old male riding a motorcycle collided with an unknown male pedestrian. Both were declared dead by paramedics on the scene of accident.”

“He is a very safe driver and some of his relatives belong to a motorcycle group and they get updates of accidents involving bikers,” says Adeeb.
“We found out because we recognised his bike on the picture. They told us the guy ran across the road and that is how it happened.
“He is a very humble guy and is not married and does not have children. This is very tragic for the family. His janaazah will be held on Friday [today].”
