A fruit and vegetable seller was arrested in Athlone on Monday after cops found dagga hidden in his stalltjie.
According to a report from Metro Police spokesperson, Zelda Martin, the 23-year-old man was arrested on Monday afternoon in Veld Road.
“The officers were passing his stall and they stopped to enquire whether or not the man had a permit to sell the fruit and vegetables.
“They enquired because the stall is not normally there and they wanted to know if he was trading legally.
“He appeared nervous and so officers searched him and the stall and found him with packets of compressed dagga hidden in the stall.”
She says officers found 38 bankies, half a bag and a full bag of compressed dagga.
“The man admitted that he was selling drugs and told officers that he charges R10 for each bankie. He was arrested and taken to Athlone Police Station for further investigations.”
