This dog’s desperate cries led a woman to a drain, where she found the poor animal trapped.
The woman called Cape of Good Hope SPCA who came to the dog’s rescue at the weekend along the corners of Baden Powell Drive and Old Faure Road in Eerste River.
Inspectors found the animal badly injured from being pelted with rocks after being thrown into the drain and left to die.
Inspector Jeffrey Mfini and a colleague rushed to the scene where they climbed down the drain.
The animal’s eyes were badly injured and she is also severely underweight.
Belinda Abraham of the Cape of Good Hope SPCA says this is one of the worst acts of cruelty they have seen in recent times.
They believe the dog had been inside the drain for a long time.
“She had clearly been stuck in this drain for a long time before a very kind person heard her cries for help.
“They couldn’t have been very loud. She was so close to giving up.
“When Inspector Jeffery Mfini reached her it became clear that she was severely underweight and the bloodstained stones around her led him to believe that she had been stoned too.
“She is doing OK, but she is very scared and has some injuries to her eyes.”
