A mother of three says a miracle from God saved her and her family after their home was petrol bombed yesterday morning.
The shacks of Vanna Januarie, 54, and her neighbour were destroyed in the ensuing fire, leaving them homeless.
The two families are the last to remain on the pavement in Chime Street, Scottsdene after they and scores of others were evicted from subsidised social housing flats they invaded two years ago.
“On Monday night out of the blue we decided not to sleep here but by other people.
“God knows we would have been dead had we stayed at home,” says Vanna.
“A resident here at the flats said he heard a loud swishing noise which we think was a petrol bomb because we found a broken glass bottle.
“When the firefighters arrived they couldn’t save anything, it was too late. Someone called us to say our homes were destroyed.”
Her neighbour Suzy September says she decided to sleep at her father’s home on Monday night after Vanna left.
It is believed the attack happened at about 3:30.
“This is the fourth fire we survived in two years of living here in front of the flats.
“We need help, please. I couldn’t stop crying when I realised God saved us. Ek is nog ’n lewendige getuie vir die Here.”
