A school taxi driver has been fined and his vehicle impounded after the City of Cape Town’s Transport Enforcement Unit stopped the vehicle in Kuils River yesterday morning.
City of Cape Town Traffic Services spokesperson, Richard Coleman, said the VW Microbus was stopped outside a primary school with children inside.
He says not only was the driver unlicenced, but he did not have an operating licence and there was also a moerse klomp liquor in the van.
“There were eight children inside, aged between 10 and 13.
“The driver didn’t have a driving license or Public Driving Permit, nor an operating license.
“Officers also found four crates of alcohol and two five litre bottles of alcohol in the boot of the vehicle and Law Enforcement was called to confiscate the goods,” said Coleman.
He urged parents to monitor and make sure their children’s school transport are legal and above board at all times.
“Cape Town Traffic implores parents and schools alike to put monitoring systems in place to ensure that children are being transported by persons with the right credentials and permits, and in a safe manner.”
