A suspect has been shot and killed moments after he and three accomplices robbed passengers in a bakkie near Gugulethu.
Police say the drama unfolded on Friday just after 7.50am when the four robbers approached the light delivery vehicle along Duinefontein Road between Manenberg and Gugulethu and robbed the passengers.
Wakker cops, who were on patrol, heard the commotion and chased after the skelms.
The diewe apparently pointed a firearm at cops who returned fire, killing one of them.
The three other robbers managed to flee the scene.
Cops have yet to divulge how much cash or what items were taken from the passengers.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, says the investigation has been handed over to Ipid, the police’s Independent Police Investigative Directorate.
The dead robber, who was in his 20s, was declared dead at the scene and an inquest docket has been opened.
The other skelms, should they be found and arrested, will face charges of armed robbery and pointing of a firearm.
“According to information, a light delivery vehicle that was picking up people was robbed by four suspects,” says Rwexana.
She says cops acted swiftly to assist.
“The suspects pointed the policemen with a firearm and police responded.
“One suspect in his twenties was fatally injured in this incident.
“The circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation with no arrests so far.
“Ipid will be investigating the circumstances of inquest.”
