A 15-year-old schoolboy is set to be charged with murder after he allegedly stabbed a 17-year-old boy in the heart during a brawl outside the Castle of Good Hope in Cape Town on Friday.
The teen, who cannot be identified, was also left with injuries to his face after being beaten with a brick and was being treated in hospital under police guard.
SAPS members and City Law Enforcement officers arrived at the scene after being alerted by a member of the public about a brawl involving a group of school boys.
It is understood the boys all attend the same high school in Woodstock.
Police spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut, says the 15-year-old boy was found in possession of a knife which was confiscated at the scene.
Police arrested four others, one for being in possession of dagga and three for the possession of dangerous weapons.
Law Enforcement spokesperson, Inspector Wayne Dyason, explains: “On Friday at 4.55pm a public member came to the Law Enforcement mobile office on the Grand Parade in Cape Town to inform officers of a group of [pupils] that were fighting in Strand Street next to the Castle.

“The officers then went to investigate and found two injured [pupils]; one was hit with a brick in the face and another had a stab wound to the heart.
“Officers then requested police to come because
the [pupil] with the stab wound appeared to not
be breathing. Medics arrived and declared the stab victim as deceased.
“The other patient was taken to Somerset Hospital. SAPS arrived on scene and searched all the [pupils] around the crime scene. One [pupil] was found to be in possession of a big flip knife and was put into a Cape Town Central van.”

Traut says the circumstances surrounding a murder and an attempted murder are being investigated.
He said the 15-year-old suspect was taken to hospital under police guard.
“He is being treated under police guard and will be detained as a suspect on a murder charge once he has been discharged from hospital.
“Both males are from Khayelitsha and are [pupils] at a school in Woodstock. During our investigation on the scene, several youths were questioned and searched. This resulted in the arrest of four suspects, three for the possession of dangerous weapons and one for the possession of dagga.”
