One person has been injured following a roof collapse at Somerset Mall in Somerset West on Sunday afternoon.
"The City's Fire & Rescue Services responded to a call out to Somerset Mall shortly after 12pm this afternoon, after a section of the roof collapsed. One person sustained injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment," Layne said.
Somerset Mall's marketing manager Wiedaad Adams said no serious injuries were reported. "At 11:23 this morning [Sunday], a portion of the ceiling in a passageway collapsed. Due to the area being cordoned off before the collapse, there were no serious injuries as a result of the incident."

Adams said centre management and Occupational Health and Safety officials were on site to determine the cause of the incident and to assess the damage.

The mall has been temporarily closed in order to complete a precautionary safety audit.

Normal operation will resume once the safety audit has been completed.
