A Hanover Park father has been hospitalised after being struck in the testicles, by a stray bullet, during a gang shooting on Monday.
His hartseer family, who has asked that he not be identified, say he was on his way to the shop for a neighbour in Derwent Lane shortly after 7pm when he was hit.
A 32-year-old relative says she got a skrik when the neighbours came to her saying he had been shot.
“It was after 7pm and he went to the shop for the one lady in the road. I was at home and they came to tell me.
“I went there and saw him lying and the neighbour took him to Heideveld [Emergency Centre].”
The traumatised woman confirms that a bullet was lodged in his testicles, but says they are waiting for doctors to tell them what will
happen next.
“He has a six-month-old son and was unemployed for a long time.
“He is not a gangster and cleans yards and does odd jobs for his son.
“[On Wednesday] he is supposed to start his new job at a plumbing place but now we don’t know. We are very worried about him,” she says.
While several residents living near Derwent Court say they witnessed the shooting between two rival gangs, no police showed up on the scene, and the man was rushed to hospital by a neighbour.
Police spokesperson, Siyabulela Malo, says Philippi police have no record of the shooting.
