Golden Arrow Bus Services says their R50 000 reward for information leading to the arrests of skelms who have been targeting commuters on buses are still up for grabs.
In the latest incident on Tuesday evening, passengers and the bus driver were ambushed by three black men on a bus travelling from Claremont to Lost City, Mitchells Plain.
Just before 8pm, the armed men pretending to be passengers boarded the bus and robbed commuters and the bus driver of their personal belongings and cellphones.
Golden Arrow Bus Services spokesperson, Bronwen Dyke-Beyer, confirmed the incident and says the recent spate of robberies onboard their buses has the company exploring alternative security options.
“The issue of crime on board our buses is a complex one as we have over 1 000 buses on the road doing multiple trips per day.
“Golden Arrow has instituted covert measures and has increased our own security patrols in certain areas and we are also exploring other options,” Dyke-Beyer says.
She is also urging anyone with information that could lead to the arrest and prosecution of skelms to please come forward.
“Golden Arrow is taking this issue very seriously and is working closely with Law Enforcement and government as this is a public safety issue which Golden Arrow cannot combat alone. “We are still offering a R50 000 reward for any information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrators and we would urge anyone with any information to please come forward,” Dyke-Beyer added.
