The investigation into the murder of show-jumper Meghan Cremer, 30, has been completed and the case against the three suspects are now ready to head to court.
However, Jeremy Sias, 27, and his two co-accused, Shiraaz Jaftha, 32 and Charles Daniels, 34, will be tried during two separate trials and on different charges.
The trio made an appearance via AVR (Audio Visual Remand) at the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on Monday and are expected to be back in court today to finalise matters.
Sias, who is facing charges of murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, theft of a motor vehicle and defeating the ends of justice, received his indictment and is expected to go on trial at the Western Cape High Court on his own.
The State says Jaftha and Daniels could not be linked to Meghan’s murder based on “objective evidence” and thus will face only a charge of theft of a motor vehicle.
CHARGED: Jeremy Sias, 27
DNA evidence has been processed and it’s understood the tow could not be placed at Meghan’s murder scene.
Their case is expected to move to the Cape Town Regional Court.
The court previously heard that Sias has a pending case of theft of a motor vehicle, and a previous conviction for assault.
Daniels has a pending theft case and a previous conviction of drugs, while Jaftha had a previous conviction of drugs, and a pending case of murder.
The trio are alleged members of the Six Bob Gang.
Meghan’s body was found on 8 August 2019 on a sand mine on a farm in Philippi after an alleged confession by Sias.
She had been strangled to death. A rope was found around her neck.
Her stolen white Toyota Auris was allegedly found in possession of the trio.
