City Law Enforcement officers had their hands full on Monday during Guy Fawkes Day celebrations where laaities went on the rampage smearing people.
Law Enforcement spokesperson, Wayne Dyason, says officers found children were even filling condoms with urine and faeces.
“We have been inundated with calls for help as children have been smearing the entire day.
“They are filling socks with rocks and paint and hitting people and also throwing it at cars.”
Shortly after 11 am in Heideveld the Daily Voice witnessed a large group of boys walking with paint-filled stockings and smearing people in Suther Peak Street.
A man who had had paint thrown at him retaliated by throwing bricks at the group.
The group then proceeded to Allison Court where one of the boys could be seen chasing a young child with paint.
They were later spotted outside a garage on Heideveld Road filling the socks before continuing on their rampage.
In Hanover Park, residents reported seeing gunmen running between smearing children.
Dyason says the most problematic areas were Lavender Hill, Grassy Park, Parkwood and Heideveld.
“That is where the most complaints came from, but the problem is all over. When officers approached the groups they scatter and flee.”
And a Gatesville shop owner received a R3 500 fine after officers found him in possession of R37 000 worth of fireworks for which he did not have a permit.
