A 65-year-old oupa from Heideveld landed in hot water over the weekend after he crashed into a cop car while allegedly driving drunk.
Acting Manenberg station commander, Colonel Sanele Zama, says officers got a skrik when they saw how gesuip the oupa was as he brazenly drove his Toyota Tazz into a police vehicle.
“Officers on duty were driving along Klipfontein Road shortly after midnight on Saturday morning when the suspect simply swerved into them driving into oncoming traffic,” Zama explains.
“He hit them head on, causing significant damage to the police vehicle.
“When they got out of the vehicle, they found the suspect, who was driving a Toyota Conquest, was drunk and slurring.”

Zama says the oupa was injured in the crash and an ambulance was called to the scene.
The elderly man was whisked away by paramedics under police guard to Groote Schuur Hospital where he is being treated for various injuries.
“He will soon be charged with drunk driving as well as reckless and negligent driving,” says Zama.
“This is very upsetting. Because of a drunk driver the station now has one less vehicle for the shifts.
“The vehicle was badly damaged and the impact caused the airbags to pop so we don’t even know if the vehicle can be repaired.
“The actions of this driver were very dangerous.”
Condemning the incident, Zama added: “No officers were injured but the accident could have been worse.”
