A man who apparently wanted to take revenge on his boss for firing him three years ago has been shot dead, allegedly by his former employer.
The 55-year-old man died after taking a bullet to his chest.
The incident happened on Tuesday morning just before 11am, outside the premises of an egg factory in Ferrous Crescent in Brackenfell.
According to a security guard at the factory, the attacker waited for his former boss, who came to collect eggs for his business, and when the man drove up in his blue bakkie, the 55-year-old attacked him with a moerse knife.
“He was hanging around outside in the street the whole morning,” says the guard who asked not to be named.
“It happened right in front of me. When the white man arrived and got out of his bakkie, this elderly black guy stabbed him in his back.
“The attacker had a very long knife and wanted to stab the man again, but he quickly drew his firearm and fired one shot, and it hit the guy in the chest.
“Then the shot man tried to run away, but he collapsed after a few steps and died.
“We then heard that the dead man was fired by his boss three years ago and he wanted to take revenge.”
The deceased is thought to have worked as a driver for the food supplier, who sacked him.
According to a police source, the shot victim lived alone in a hokkie in Wallacedene and cops are trying to locate his family.
The stabbed employer’s identity was not made public.
Police spokesperson, Mihlali Majikela, confirms: “A case of attempted murder and an inquest docket has been opened for investigation following an incident that occurred on 10 December at 10.53am outside a business premises in Ferrous Close, Brackenfell.
“It is alleged that an altercation ensued between the deceased, a 55-year-old male, and the male victim, his former employer.
“During the altercation, the victim was confronted by the deceased outside the premises and stabbed with a sharp object.
“One shot was fired and the deceased was fatally wounded and declared dead on the scene. “The victim sustained stab wounds and was taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment. “The circumstances surrounding this incident are still being investigated.”
