A suspected car skelm is recovering in hospital after colliding with five vehicles in Milnerton as he tried to escape from police.
The dramatic scene played out in Racecourse Road on Tuesday about 3pm, where the 40-year-old man collided with several vehicles causing the stolen VW Polo he was driving to flip in the middle of the road while being chased by the Maitland Flying Squad.
“There was a home invasion the night before where the victim’s white VW Polo was also stolen in the robbery,” says the source.
“On Tuesday the car was spotted on Racecourse Road and there was a big chase
with police.
“That ou sped off and hit a car with people from Medi-Clinic inside and he ended up flipping the Polo in the middle of the road.
“The cops got him and took him to hospital because he was hurt.”
The source says it is not clear where the man is from and bullet doppies were found on the scene.
“It is not clear who opened fire.”
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, confirms the arrest and says the VW Polo was stolen during a house robbery on Monday in Milnerton.
“The suspect lost control of the vehicle and it rolled and collided with five other vehicles, causing minor injuries to one of the motorists.
“A 40-year-old suspect was arrested and taken under police guard to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.”
The suspect is expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court.
