Murder accused Corrine Jackson appeared in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court yesterday for a consultation with her new Legal Aid lawyer but claimed she was too traumatised to continue.
Jackson, 23, is accused of stabbing her girlfriend Nadine Esterhuizen, 18, to death Mitchells Plain, on 27 September 2017.
Nadine’s mother Vanessa Esterhuizen says she’s moeg of waiting for justice: “It’s been three years since Nadine died, I’m sick and tired of the up and down, all I want is justice for my baby."
Jackson, dressed in black and grey, stood in the dock and told Magistrate Toboshe she wasn’t ready for a consultation with her lawyer.
Meanwhile, protesters from Cape Lives Matter had gathered outside the court where the leader, Camorin du Plessis said: “We are gatvol, there is no movement in the case, just postponements all the time.”
Protester Linda Jones said: “We are requesting that action from the DPP (Director of Public Prosecutions) office be taken against [Jackson], she gets away with her tactics. She says she is not ready for a consultation, since when can an accused dictate if she is emotionally strong?
“She wants to see a psychiatrist but she was announced fit to stand trial. This is really not fair to the family. Currently the wheel of justice is at the pace of a tortoise.”
The case was postponed to 7 October.
