Police are seeking the help of the public to assist in finding a missing Edgemead man who disappeared without a trace.
Allen Barnes, a member of the Western Cape Athletics Association Financial Board, was last seen leaving his home early on Saturday after 3am in his silver Toyota Corolla.
He was believed to be en route to an athletics club event that was being held at the Strandfontein Pavilion.
Barnes was to be the race
director at the Stragglers Beachcomber race.
But he didn’t make it to Strandfontein.
A member of the Stragglers club posted on Facebook apologising to participants for not distributing water along the race route, which Barnes was meant to deliver.
“On behalf of Stragglers Athletics Club, we sincerely apologise for the lack of water on the route as well as the medals.
“Unfortunately, our race
director who has all the items has gone missing, and still is.”
Daily Voice tried to reach Barnes’ family, however, they were not available for comment.
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, confirmed a missing person’s report has open for investigation.
“Be advised that Allen Barnes was reported as missing Saturday at Bothasig police station,” he said.
“He was last seen leaving his house in Edgemead at about 3.30am on Saturday, en route to Strandfontein Pavilion, but he did not arrive.
“He was driving a silver/grey Toyota Corolla sedan CA 453326.
“The investigation/search
continues.”
