A Heideveld family got a moerse skrik on Thursday morning when cops raided their home and found two guns and ammunition hidden in their bathroom geyser.
The Manenberg Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) arrested a 31-year-old man for possession of the firearms, ammunition and a packet full of tik - to the shock of his parents who watched their “homely son with no gang affiliations” being placed in the back of a police van.
A Glock and 17 rounds of ammunition confiscated from the house were reported stolen in 2004 and linked to a Sea Point case.
A 7.65 pistol with four rounds of ammunitions and a brown packet, wrapped and sealed, containing uncut tik were also recovered in the geyser compartment in the bathroom.
Seven rounds of 7.65mm ammunition were also found in the suspect’s bedroom.
Manenberg Police Station commander, Brigadier Enolium Joseph, says: “The unit received information of illegal firearms and ammunition at an address in Groenberg Road in Heideveld.
HAUL: Tik was found
“Although there were family and friends at the address, the information received was that the 31-year-old male is the person in possession of the firearms.”
He says residents from the area were in shock: “Many people were surprised and confused as the home is a family home of an outstanding family with no issues of criminality within the Heideveld community.
“He will be charged with illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and possession of tik. An additional charge of [having] a prohibited firearm will be added as it carries a more serious penalty and sentence.”
