“Numerous structures were destroyed and the fire was extinguished at 4am.
“Unfortunately a body of a man was discovered and a woman was treated and transported to a nearby hospital for burn wounds.”
During the same time, an emergency call came in from Khayelitsha.
“Then at approximately 3am, the Service responded to a house alight in Matshoba Street, Khayelitsha,” says
Carelse.
“Despite courageous efforts of firefighters, CPR was terminated on an adult male whilst a woman was transported to hospital for burn wounds.”
He says in the third incident, at 4.50am, Fire and Rescue Services responded to structures alight at Siqalo Informal Settlement, Philippi.
“Firefighters took less than an hour to extinguish the blaze. Unfortunately the bodies of two men were discovered during mopping up operations.”
