A Cape Flats mom has grilled Nando’s after she was allegedly served raw chicken twice.
Asha Allie, 32, from Steenberg, says they have a long-standing weekly family tradition to dite at a Nando’s restaurant.
However, last week, their night out was spoiled when staff at the Grassy Park branch, on the corner of 5th Avenue and Prince George drive, she claims they first served them raw chicken, then refused to fully reimburse them when they wanted to leave.
“Thursdays in my household is our family day and we all go to Nando’s, I get a night off from cooking and we talk about our week, but last week all this was spoilt,” she explains.
“We went to Nando’s and it was our third time at the one in Grassy Park and we ordered our usual family meal."
The mother of three says she did not expect to find rou hoender on her plate.
“The waiter brought our food and as usual my son carved the chicken and then he told me to see what we got.
“He loves science and immediately said he will not be eating the chicken because he’s going to contract Ebola," she says.
The chicken was raw and bloody and my girls refused to eat it.
“I called the waiter, complained, she took the chicken back, being open plan I could see the chicken just going back on the grill.
“The same chicken, now just heavily basted in sauce, was then returned to us, and it was still raw,” Asha says angrily.
If the chicken wasn’t bad enough, Asha says management's attitude was even worse.
“I spoke to the manager, she was very disrespectful. Nando’s is a big name and one does not expect this treatment.
“She was all nonchalant and didn’t care at all. I work in retail and know how important customer service is.
“When I asked for a full refund of R299, she only returned R120 and said the sides, our chips, rice and rolls that we ordered were right and she would only refund me the price of a whole chicken.
“I had to come home that night and cook because my family was hungry. I promise, me or my family, will never return there.
“I posted the pictures on Facebook and Hello Peter so everyone can see, I mean my children could have gotten ill,” she says.
Nando's spokesperson says the company is looking into the matter.
“Nando’s is investigating an incident reported to it. Until the investigation has been concluded, Nando’s will unfortunately not be able to comment further,” Smith said.
