The man accused of trying to kill alleged Sexy Boys gang boss Jerome “Donkie” Booysen by injecting him with snake venom has rejected a plea deal and will instead stand trial.
This was revealed at the Western Cape High Court on Wednesday as accused Fabian Cupido appeared after the matter was postponed on Friday.
The alleged assassin, who is accused of dressing up as a female doctor in October 2017 and trying to kill Booysen while he was recovering from a gunshot wound at a Bellville Hospital, had initially planned to enter to into a plea deal, but National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Eric Ntabazalia, says he has “changed his mind”.
The 39-year-old man from Scottsdene was caught by Booysen’s bodyguards in his hospital ward and was charged with attempted murder and possession of a stolen car.
Police found the keys to the car, which was stolen in Simon’s Town, in Cupido’s doctor’s coat.
At the time of the attempted hit, Booysen was being treated in hospital
after being shot four times - three times in the chest and once in the
right arm - at the Cape Town International Airport, in the third attempt
on his life in six months.
TARGET: Booysen
Ntabazalia says: “Fabian Cupido changed his mind and refused to enter into a plea and
sentencing agreement with the state.
“He appeared in Court 4 of the Western Cape High Court where the matter was postponed to 17 August for trial.
“Advocate Mervyn Menigo will continue with leading the prosecution of the accused.”
