Two alleged drug merts will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate's Court after cops found them with 200 date rape drugs valued at R30 000 in Rondebosch East.
According to a source, the two friends, aged 25 and 33, were nabbed after cops swooped on them on Monday afternoon shortly after they received the drugs from a postal service in Plumstead.
“The 25-year-old man is from Wynberg and went to fetch the package at PostNet in Plumstead and dropped it at his friend’s house in Hanbury Avenue, Rondebosch East,” says the source.
“Both of them were arrested in the house. This is not a known drug house and it is the first time there has been an issue there.”
Police spokesperson Lt-Col. Andrè Traut says cops conducted an intelligence-driven operation to intercept the consignment of the drug Rohypnol, aka Roofies, destined for the Cape Town black market.
“Information at our disposal indicated that the schedule five drug was dispatched from Durban and our investigations resulted in a search operation at the residence,” says Traut.
“Two suspects aged 33 and 25 were arrested for being in possession of 200 Rohypnol tablets valued at around R 30 000, dagga plants and products also valued at R30 000 and cash.

“Two motor vehicles were also confiscated. We have reason to believe that the Rohypnol tablets were earmarked for sexual crimes against women.”
Lansdowne Community Police Forum chairperson, Rafique Foflonker, says they are horrified and have launched an awareness campaign.
“We are shocked and very concerned as there are more than 20 nightclubs in this precinct,” he says.
“The people who use this drug target women in clubs. Rohypnol is used to drug women before they are raped.
“It makes the women lame and they often can’t move or remember what has happened to them so they are reluctant to report it. We have made pamphlets and will be handing them out at various venues.”
