A Hanover Park father has died after heartless skollies shot him while he was walking home on Tuesday night.
Hartseer residents in Algoa Court say they could only watch as Jerome Arthur, 42, bled to death on the pavement as they were too afraid to go outside to help him.
Resident Gladys Jones, 67, says she was inside her council flat when she heard a klompie skote going off shortly after 8pm.
“We went to look and could see him lying there but we couldn’t go down to help him because the shooters were still there and we were bang,” she says.
“He was shot at the shop on the corner and ran in the direction of his home but collapsed in front of Algoa Court.”
HEARTBREAK: Jerome Arthur, 42, was killed in Algoa Court in Hanover Park on Tuesday night.
Residents sent frantic voice notes on neighbourhood watch groups asking for police assistance.
Gladys says after skollies left the area, they all rushed outside to Jerome, who was still alive.
“I got a skrik when I saw it was him because we all know him and he isn’t even a gangster.
“They shot him six times in the chest and the people wanted to move him because the ambulance was taking too long but they couldn’t because they were scared the bullets would move.
“The police and his family came and we all watched how he died holding his mommy’s hand.
“It was hartseer and horrible to see him bleed to death. He still tried to say something but couldn’t get the words out,” says Gladys.

Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk says: “According to reports, the deceased was walking in the road when he was confronted by one unknown suspect who pulled out a firearm and shot him.
“The victim died on the scene. The suspect fled the scene and is yet to be arrested”.
Jerome’s heartbroken father declined an interview but confirmed he was a father of three.
Residents say Jerome was shot by members of the Ghetto Kidz gang amid an ongoing fight with the Americans gang.
They explain the Americans dominate the area around Algoa Court while the Ghettos control the area around Donegal Court.
A veldjie separates the two turfs and has become a notorious battlefield in
Hanover Park.

In November, mom Gouwa Karriem, 28, died after being struck in the head during a shooting in Donegal Court while she shielded children.
Two alleged members of the Americans gang were arrested for her murder.
Residents now plan to call a meeting with authorities to bring the bloodshed in the two council courts to an end.
