A warrant of arrest has been issued for murder accused Corrine Jackson who failed to appear in the Mitchells Plain Regional Court.
Jackson, 23, is accused of stabbing her girlfriend Nadine Esterhuizen, 18, to death inside a house in Colorado Park, Mitchells Plain in September 2017.
There were lengthy queues stretching around the court yesterday as Magistrate Mary Jacuw called for Jackson.
When she didn’t appear, Jacauw left her courtroom and went outside to take everyone appearing in court out of the line.
Magistrate Toboshe then replaced Jacuw who called thrice for Jackson to appear.
By 1pm, Jackson was a no-show and a warrant for her arrest was issued.
At her last appearance on 14 July, Jackson wanted to plead guilty on culpable homicide, but was denied by the court who wanted her to plead on a charge of murder instead.
Jackson then withdrew her request and was to appear yesterday to continue the trial where seven witness are set to testify against her.
Magistrate Toboshe postponed the matter, saying:
“The case will be postponed for plea and trial to 30 July, the accused will be issued with a warrant of arrest for failing to appear in court today.”
The accused’s new Legal Aid lawyer Christopher Kwetana was dismissed from court after he felt ill.
