A police officer has been shot and wounded and two suspects were also injured after they carried out a robbery at another MTN store on Friday.
The drama unfolded just after 11:45am when the robbers visited the MTN cellphone shop in Durbanville.
It is unclear what the suspects made off with.
Durbanville police officers gave chase as the suspects fled to the Kraaifontein area where a shootout began.
A police officer in his thirties was shot in the hand and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the suspects, who were also wounded, were admitted to hospital under police guard.
A firearm was confiscated at the scene.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana says the suspects are expected to appear in court soon: “The attack on a police member performing his duties this morning in Kraaifontein is strongly condemned by SAPS management.
“At about 11:45 a business robbery was perpetrated at a cellular telephone store in Durbanville.
“Durbanville police gave chase and the suspects fled to Kraaifontein area where a shootout occurred.
“A police member in his thirties, stationed at Kraaifontein SAPS was shot and wounded in his hand and transported to hospital where he is being treated for his injuries.
“Two suspects were also shot and wounded during the incident and admitted to hospital under police guard.
“A firearm was confiscated. Cases of attempted murder and Business robbery are under investigation. Once charged, the suspects are due to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate's court."
This is the second MTN store be hit in less than a week.
On Wednesday robbers at MTN Westgate Mall, Mitchell’s Plain fled with an undisclosed amount of money and cellphones.
On Thursday robbers struck Vodacom 4u at Vangate Mall, Athlone and demanded two cellphones from staff.
