A teenage skelm with a sweet tooth will make her first appearance at the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court today after she was bust stealing chocolates worth R6000 in Ottery last week.
According to a source, the girl from Khayelitsha had arrived at Pick n Pay Hyper with a plan to steal an assortment of expensive chocolates but her sweet plan turned sour when security guards became suspicious.
They waited for her to leave the store before pouncing on her.
Khayelitsha girl, 19, to appear in court for shoplifting at Pick n Pay Hyper store in Ottery
“She was caught on Thursday at Pick n Pay in Ottery by the security guards who followed her around the shop,” says the source.
“They were clever and they were wearing civilian clothes so she did not suspect they are security guards and she went around the shop and stole a whole variety of chocolates and the expensive ones.”
The source says the girl filled a Woolworths shopping bag with the chocolates and left the store without paying.
“She gave her own game away with that big bag. That bag must have been heavy to walk around the shop with because she stole chocolates worth more than R6000.
“The security guards waited to see if she intended on paying first but when she walked out without paying, they caught her as she left.”
The source says Grassy Park SAPS were called to the store where they counted the choccies, which were mostly Lindt chocolates.
LOOT: Lindt chocolates
“She took the hazelnut, orange flavoured one, the dark chocolate slabs, the milk chocolate slabs and even stole a microfibre lappie worth R159.
“She was charged with shoplifting and the items recorded and handed back to the store.
“She did not want to say what she was doing with all that chocolate or why she basically only stole chocolates, so she must have a sweet tooth,” the source jokes.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana confirms the case.
She added that the 19-year-old suspect will appear in court today on shoplifting charges.
