This is the man cops say tried to kidnap a 10-year-old Mitchells Plain boy outside his school last month.
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, says the boy from Rocklands told cops that on 5 September about 2.30pm he was leaving school when he was approached by a man in Gold Street.
This incident comes in the wake of similar cases.
The child’s father told the Daily Voice the incident occurred at Eisleben Primary School and lessons about stranger danger saved his son.
“He had gone on a school outing and when they returned, he was exiting the school premises. He said a man approached and called him over,” the dad explained.
“He knows he must not speak to strangers and he immediately backtracked into the school grounds and hid.
“He ran into the bathroom where he stayed for a bit and then he saw the man enter the school. He ran to the opposite gate of the school and saw one of the Walking Bus / Neighbourhood Watch ladies.
“Without even looking, he shouted at her and ran across the road into the safety of her arms.”
He says his son remembered the make of the car as well as the licence plate number.
“He asked for paper and wrote down the licence plate number. It was a white Toyota. I am very proud of him for remembering. He identified the person as a black man.”
Van Wyk says the boy told cops as he was exiting the school, he saw a white motor vehicle standing in front of the school.
“An unknown male called him saying to get into the car now. The boy became afraid and ran back onto the school premises,” says Van Wyk.
“The registration of the vehicle was false. Police are investigating a case of attempted kidnapping.”
He says the alleged snatcher is a black man, who has a scar on his right cheek, is of slender build and is estimated to be about 30 years old.
Anyone who recognises this man is asked to call Detective Warrant Officer Paul Wolmarans of the Mitchells Plain Family Violence Child Protection Sexual Offences unit (FCS) on 081 283 0007.
