A man was gunned down in Bonteheuwel on Monday in what is believed to have been a retaliation shooting by a rival gang.
The 21-year-old was killed in Loganberry Street at 9pm where he was shot multiple times.
The victim allegedly belonged to a rival gang and residents say he was killed after the shooting of a Hard Livings gangster last Friday.
“The HLs’ allegedly vowed to pick up the blood of a brother,” one resident says.
Police spokesperson Sinathi Joni says a case of murder is being investigated.
Ward Councillor, Angus McKenzie, says: “Bonteheuwel has been extremely quiet due to high levels of police visibility, our active Neighbourhood Watch and also our closure of council rental stock drug houses.
“This specific shooting was sadly an isolated incident in a fairly controlled street.
“Concerning is the internal gangs fighting each other for territory. We are suffocating the trade of drugs and activities of gangsters which is placing huge pressure on gangs to operate.
“The fact is we will not let up and we will continue to working towards ending this rubbish.”
