With the winter chill here, there are hundreds of homeless people seeking shelter and warmth from the frosty weather.
This is why Christoffel Maneville from Belhar is looking for people to partner with him on his blanket drive.
The unemployed man from Extension 13 says he is on a mission to collect blankets and donate them to the homeless.
Christoffel, 32, and his friends Jessica Abrahams and Sebastian Petersen have put their pleas on social media, but say they haven’t received feedback yet.
“We want to lend a helping hand to those who are in need by giving blankets to people who live on the street. Each of us has our own story, so we can’t judge people for why they find themselves on the streets, but rather to help to provide them with a blanket this winter.
“We know a blanket is not all that they need and we can’t give them shelter, but we can give them a blanket to keep warm.”
Christoffel says he wants to distribute the komberse all over Cape Town.
“We want to reach out to religious leaders, communities and businesses. We can’t do this without people, so let’s show our generosity towards each other daily.”
People who would like to donate can drop off their blankets at Kaleidoscope, 56 Main Road in Claremont on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am-5pm.
Blankets should be new or in a good condition.
