Family and friends of four-year-old Carly Josephs will gather on Saturday to say farewell to the Delft toddler who died tragically last week.
While the investigation into the tragic incident is ongoing, her family has decided to open her funeral to the community.
The little girl died on Saturday night after the huge steel gate at her ouma’s home in Waterberg Road came crashing down on her head.
She was declared dead on the scene as hartseer relatives and residents cried near her little body.
The toddler along with her seven-year-old sister, Imaan, arrived at the home with their ouma shortly after 8pm and as the granny pulled her car into the garage, she gave the girls detergent to take into the house and did not notice that they had gone to close the gate.
The metal gate came off the rails and fell on Carly, crushing her.
Great uncle, Julian Plaatjies , 53, says the family wants the community at the funeral.
“We will start with the viewing at her grandmother (Rachel Theunis) and the funeral procession will then move to the Gethsemane Pentecostal Church in Welcome Estate,” he says.
“It has been a very hard time for the family and her mother is very emotional.
“Aunty Rachel has given her statement to the police but we are happy that the correct version of what transpired has come out.
“We decided to open the funeral proceedings to the community as many people are traumatised. So we have invited them to join us as we say goodbye to Carly.”
