A woman believed to be the mother of a
month-old infant has been caught on CCTV footage dumping her baby in front of a house in Lansdowne.
The woman, who has yet to be arrested, was seen on private surveillance footage, leaving the month-old baby in front of a house in St Joseph Road.
The infant, who was alive, was found by community members and taken to Hanover Park Day Hospital.
It is believed the woman may be from a nearby informal settlement called “Die Landjie”.
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, says a case of child abandonment has been opened for investigation.
“A baby boy estimated age about 3-4 weeks old was found abandoned in front of a residence in St Joseph Road in Lansdowne Groenvlei area and the baby is alive.
“A case of child abandonment was opened for investigation,” says Van Wyk.
“The baby was taken to a children’s hospital for further check-ups and referral to Social Development.”
