Residents of Irene Court in Heideveld were entertained with a fun talent show to keep the youth away from criminal activities on Saturday.
One of the organisers, Lucinda Ahmed, 46, says Irene Court’s youth has many talents and these must be put to good use.
“It was a modeling and talent show combined with around 36 participants.
“The categories were singing, dancing and instrumentals.
“Our hope is to use these kids' talents to keep them away from drugs, gangsterism and any criminal activities,” says Lucinda.
The show had toddler, junior and senior categories and more than 200 residents joined in the fun.
Melody 5, a local band from Mitchells Plain, provided the beats and social media’s Iekie Botha, from WhatsUp With Ikie, was the MC.
Lucinda says residents enjoyed the free event and the vibe was lekker.
“Elders started to get cold but didn’t want to leave as they thoroughly enjoyed the homemade show.
“DJ Boogaloo provided music and a donation was received from Marlons Printing in Athlone and Moving Forward in Paarl.”
She adds that raffles were raised to buy prizes for the winners and participants.
“A special thanks to Barney’s Shop and Vanguard Butchery for their generous donations as well.”
