February is Pride Month and Craig Lucas is taking centre stage as The Justice Desk hosts WE ARE QUEER - A night of Music and Art featuring the singing star and other performing artists.
On Friday, the human rights NPO is hosting the gay event, which aims to be a “celebration of the diversity which exists in sexuality”, as well as a reminder that there is still work to be done.
Craig, 28, who came out about his sexual orientation in 2018, says he doesn’t want others to suffer in silence.
“I’m surrounded by so many people who love me for who I am, and that gives me the courage to continue being myself,” says the Voice Season 2 winner.
“I have the same rights as anyone else and I cannot allow anyone’s prejudice to rob me of those rights.
“Being a musician allows us a rare opportunity to use what we do as a living to also make a difference.
“That is a blessing and I don’t want to waste that opportunity.”
Craig says it was these events that helped him accept himself.

“The LQBTQ+ community played a big role in me finding myself,” he says.
“It’s a safe space for a lot of kids. I know how hard it can be feeling like you don’t belong anywhere.
“I want kids to know that they have a right to take up space in the world.”
The event starts at 7pm at Sorriso’s in Milnerton. Admission is R120 and all proceeds will go to The Justice Desk.
