It was a night for the manne on Idols SA on Sunday.
The show, called Boys’ Night Out, had the gents wysing their vocal mettle.
Last week the Top 16 finalists were announced, with three Kaapse contestants in the running.
With the eight gents performing songs from The Temptations chart toppers, it is no surprise that Niyaaz Arendse, from Ottery, and Ravensmead’s Lincoln Lewis, both 22, were crowd favourites.
Lincoln’s performance of the James Bond theme song Writings’ On The Wall by Sam Smith had one of the judges gushing.
An excited Judge Unathi said:“You are a consummate performer. You gave me goosebumps and when I saw your eyes roll back, I knew you were in the moment.”
Lincoln says reaching the first live round was an adrenaline rush.
“It was so amazing being on that stage. I’m used to performing on stage, but Idols is a whole new world.”
Niyaaz closed the show with Justin Timberlake’s Mirrors, to which Randal commented that he “came to fight and gave a solid performance”.
An ecstatic Niyaaz said: “I made it! This is a huge achievement.
“It’s been a tough journey and with the Top 10 level in sight, I can’t wait to go there.”
Next week, the girls of the Top 16 will fight for a spot in the Top 10. It’s now up to South Africa to vote for their favourite.
To vote for Niyaaz , SMS 08 to 37400 and for Lincoln, SMS 05 to 37400.
The show is on Mzansi Magic, DStv Channel 161 on Sundays at 5pm.
