Local muso Tye Platinum is finally realising a life-long dream by releasing his debut single after more than a decade of collabs with other singers.
Tye, 35, from Belhar says the single, called That’s Why I Love You, will be released on Friday.
“After all these years in the music scene, it's a great achievement for me to finally be releasing my own music,” he says.
“I was mainly working behind the scenes composing TV jingles and writing for other artists.
“At the same time I was working on finding a sound that resonated with me.
“I didn’t just want to make music for the sake of making it, but believe me the call to release music and connect with people through it was ringing loudly and I have finally answered that call.”
The R&B crooner will release his song tomorrow on all digital platforms, just in time for Christmas.
Tye, who rose to fame as a finalist on The Voice SA in 2019, says his love for R&B, funk and soul genres is what inspired him to get back into the studio this year.
“The song was inspired by the need to get back to love, back to the basics of a wholesome loving human experience.
“With this offering I’ve gone back to my R&B roots, but this time I’m working with a bigger group of experts in the genre.”
His self-titled album, Tye Platinum, is due for release in February 2021.
“This album is almost 10 years in the making and the opportunity to complete it gives me goosebumps and to collaborate with creatives that understand and complement my vision is really what dreams are made of.”
