It’s Mother’s Day on Sunday, so what better way to honour your mom than to pay tribute?
The Daily Voice caught up with local celebrities in Cape Town and asked them what their favourite memories of their moms are.
Motor-mouth rapper Earl Swarts, aka Early B, says he loved it when his mom Linda Swarts, 69, took him out for pizza.

“She would take me for pizza once a month, I loved pizza as a kid. We would also have a movie day and talk about everything, this was our quality time.”
Earl has one sibling and says he admires his mother’s quiet strength.
Actress Jill Levenberg, who stars in the soapie Suidooster as Moena, says her mom Carol Levenberg, 70, has strong values.

“When I was about 11 years old, she got me a little kiddies cookbook and every Sunday I would make the ring doughnuts recipe in it,” says Jill.
“The doughnuts were sometimes kliphard, but my parents would eat it like it was the best meal they ever tasted.
“What I admire most is her willpower, generosity, and storytelling (she should’ve been an actress).”
Singer Jarrad Ricketts shares a special bond with his mother.

Jarrad explains that his mom, Melgrid Ricketts, 65, adopted him.
“My mom and dad have three daughters and always wanted a son, but she had a hysterectomy and couldn’t have any more children.
“She saw an advert in the newspaper from an adoption agency looking for parents to adopt children and they found me.”
Idols 2018 winner, Paxton Fielies, says her mom, Chrystal Fielies, is a ‘super mom’.

“My mom raised me and my sister by herself and we didn’t have everything we wanted, but my mommy made us feel safe and loved at all times.
“My favourite childhood memory would have to be the time I performed at a church concert and I got stage fright and cried running downstairs to her in the middle of the song, and she bought me a lot of luxuries so I can stop crying. She still teases me about it.”
Singer Sasha-Lee Davids is one of ten children. She says her mom, Sally Davids, 64, makes the best sandwiches.

“I remember always being excited when I was late for school and didn’t have time to pack lunch, my mom would make the most amazing gourmet sandwiches and send my dad to drop it off at school break time.”
Jawaahier Petersen is the newest face on Suidooster and plays Kaashifa. She says her mom, Madeegha Anders, 57, is her role model.

“My favourite childhood memory is of my mom coming to coach our primary school choir and feeling so proud and honoured to confirm when the kids asked me if that pretty lady was my mother.
“We performed at the Waterfront amphitheatre that day and the photo still hangs in the foyer of the school.
“I admire my mother’s resilience when life knocked her down, she always got back up.”
Black Ties singer, Chad Saaiman, says his mom, Sandra Saaiman, 64, is an amazing storyteller.
“My favourite childhood memory of my mother is when she would fetch me from school on her off days; she worked really hard, so they were rare, but my most enjoyable moments with her.
“What makes her special is her heart, and how she demands your attention when telling a story...that could last for a while.”
