Corrine Jackson will face a list of witnesses when her murder trial begins next month, including the police officer who found the body of her girlfriend, Nadine Esterhuizen, inside a house in Mitchells Plain nearly three years ago.
On Tuesday, a nervous-looking Jackson heard her trial would begin on 5 March at the Mitchells Plain Regional Court.
Proceedings could not officially get under way due to the State prosecutor, Darren Johnson, attending another courthouse for another case.
The five State witnesses who are set to testify were all present at court on Tuesday.
Jackson is yet to plead to her charge of murder.
ACCUSED: Corrine Jackson 'killed her girlfriend'.
Among the witnesses is a police officer who had been first on scene and found Nadine’s body inside her sister’s home in Colorado Park in September 2017.
Jackson, 23, was found inside the locked bathroom, in possession of two knives, allegedly used in self-defence
Relatives and a close friend of Nadine are set to take the witness stand to recount the events of that fateful day.
In December, Jackson made a bid for a possible plea agreement, but this was rejected by the State.
The accused is currently out on R5 000 bail and conditions prohibit her from being in the Mitchells Plain area, except during her court case.
KILLED: Nadine
Prosecutors are set to prove Jackson, 20, slashed Nadine 21 times.
The State is also set to prove that Jackson allegedly tried to sever her head, leaving a 20cm-long and 4cm-deep knife wound.
Pathologists have confirmed that the attack had been done with severe aggression and was not Satanic, as initially suspected.
Nadine, who was in matric at the time, had previously obtained a protection order against Jackson and had opened a case of assault after an alleged incident where she was attacked at Strandfontein Pavilion in July 2017.
