When 150 supercars cruise down the highway, everybody (not just petrolheads) turn their head. But that only happens in movies right? Wrong.
Just recently, around the turn of the year, there was an event in the Mother City that literally stopped the traffic in its tracks. A visual feast of 150 of the most exotic and luxurious supercars in the world, all gathered in one place at the same time.
Event organisers Last Lion Lifestyle have been building up to this one, having hosted nearly 20 successful “breakfast runs” that have brought new energy and lasting fame to the genre.
Last Lion is the brainchild of Ish Kaskar, a businessman and avid supercar enthusiast and collector. Last Lion Lifestyle has by far set the gold standard when it comes to the culture of breakfast runs in Cape Town.
While the concept itself is not unique, it’s the elements that Kaskar has managed to integrate into these runs that truly set them apart – besides the fact that you’re certainly in for a massive treat if you happen to spot the huge convoy of supercars passing you on the highway.
Bobby Nitro has written in the past on the outreach and inspirational work these guys do in the rural areas and more.
With so many self-made successful entrepreneurs in attendance, Ish has managed to get some pretty inspirational speakers to address our underprivileged communities and encourage young people to believe that anything is possible.
The events are exclusive, certainly, with entry being ownership of a fabulous machine, but they also serve as the perfect business networking tool.
While new trade relationships are established, both owners and the public alike get to marvel at the sheer spectacle of some of the finest automotive machinery known to man.
But back to the day itself. In 2015, the finale took drivers into the Cape Town Stadium, so Ish was hard-put to top that spectacle. Last year, the grand finale for the 2016 season started off at the formal backdrop of UCT on December 29, while entrants slowly made their way in.
Brands like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, McLaren and Aston Martin were well represented, with bystanders jostling to view the gorgeous beasts as they rolled into the parking area.
A top-notch coffee roasting firm provided the morning fuel, while a motoring investment company provided eye candy consisting of an assortment of their available stock. Corporate sponsors provided the convoy marshalls’ cars for the day, while the performance arm of a top brand garnered much interest.
This particular event saw a brilliant international partnership being born.
Cars and Coffee, a global automotive franchise with an established presence in the European and American market, has been looking to expand to the South African market for some time – and found the perfect partner in Last Lion Lifestyle.
Thanks to this link, the number of entrants swelled to 150 confirmed supercars on the day – international owner-visitors included!
With these events also proudly supported by the City of Cape Town Deputy Mayor Ian Nielson spoke about encouraging investment and trade into our local economy, while the Director of Protection Services in the Overstrand region emphasised the importance of a partnership between supercar owners and traffic officials to ensure general safety on public roads.
Once all those highly-tuned motors had been revved to life and properly warmed up, it was time for this multimillion-rand convoy to hit the public roads. With traffic officials ensuring a smooth flow of traffic, it was time for Cape Town to be wowed by the spectacle that could only be seen to be believed!
Enjoying some of the best driving roads in South Africa, the convoy eventually ended up at Opstal, Rawsonville, for a superb lunch while enjoying spectacular views. Supercar owners took the time to socialise and network, as well as engage with the underprivileged locals of the area – giving them that motivation to reach for the highest levels of success.
All in all, it was an amazing day out; simply enjoying thoroughbred machines and taking in the beauty that only our Mother City can offer.
Ish Kaskar concludes: “The Last Lion Lifestyle team would like to thank Castrol, Maserati, UCT, Cars and Coffee Global, the City of Cape Town, as well as their affiliated media partners for making this event possible and as successful as it was.”
