Manenberg residents are mourning the death of a popular community worker who died tragically when a cash-in-transit van allegedly jumped a red robot and crashed into her car.
On Tuesday, hartseer residents gathered at the home of Mymoena Adams, 46, who ran the Brothers For Life soup kitchen with her husband Abdul-
Karriem, 48, who was injured in the crash.
Abdul-Karriem, who suffered a concussion and a damaged spleen, was unable to attend his wife’s janaazah on Tuesday.
The family had been travelling on Duinefontein Road on Monday when tragedy struck.

Moulana Sameeg Norodien says the community watched in horror as paramedics removed Mymoena’s body from her Hyundai Getz and treated her husband and their son, Abubaker, 23, before rushing them to
hospital.
“It happened at the intersection of Jordaan Street. Everyone was in shock because we couldn’t believe what we were seeing,” Norodien says.
“To maintain her dignity, her relatives collected sheets to cover her as the forensic services carried her away. It was a horrible scene.”
Acting Manenberg police station commander, Colonel Sanela Zama, says the incident happened shortly before noon as the driver of a Fidelity Security van allegedly jumped a red robot and ploughed into the family’s car, causing their van to flip in the road.
“I can confirm that an adult female died in the accident and two adult males were taken to hospital,” says Zama.
“The security guards were treated on the scene and we are investigating a case of culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving.”

Abubaker was released from hospital on Tuesday after he was treated for fractured ribs, but Abdul-Karriem is being kept at Groote Schuur Hospital.
“We spoke to the doctors and they said his spleen was bleeding and they were worried that it may be too dangerous for him to leave the hospital,” explains Norodien.
“It is very sad and very tragic for their family, especially because of the people they are.
“They have been running the soup kitchen for more than 10 years and each week Abdul-Karriem participates in the thikr to bring peace in Manenberg.
“He is also a member of the Take Back The Street initiative and is at the forefront of anti-gang protests. The community is saddened by this tragic loss.”
