George Benson had a real jol when he told everyone: Turn Your Love Around and Give Me The Night.
The American jazz legend walked onto the stage at GrandWest on Saturday night and the first song he performed was Love X Love and the crowd went mal.
Thousands of Cape Town fans packed into the venue to hear the guitar maestro perform all the hits they have come to love over the years.
People couldn’t sit down for long and many were dancing in the aisles, with couples sommer jazzing next to their chairs.
When Benson played Kisses In The Moonlight it was like he’d lit the flame of love and it looked like all the couples at the concert started slow-dancing.
And Benson definitely knew how to turn on the charm in between the songs.
Before singing In Your Eyes he told the crowd: “Here’s a song you just might like, you made it famous.”
Dion Seekoe from Mitchells Plain wasn’t going to miss the show for anything.
“Ah, it’s great man. It’s George Benson, hy is die beste,” says an ecstatic Dion.
Gret’l Giani from Parklands says she’s been a lifelong fan.
“I’m only 35 now but I’ve been dancing to his music all my life,” she says.
A breathless Desire Weaver from Summer Greens had sang her heart out at the show and when it was all over could hardly talk.
“It was a big jol!” was all Desire could say.
On some of his songs Benson didn’t even sing, deciding only to play the guitar, but it was all he had to do to keep the crowd on their feet because they were all there to Give Him The Night.
