Western Province have added three Proteas to their squad ahead of the new cricket season.
With the franchise system scrapped, the eight teams in Division 1 yesterday named their squad for the upcoming season.
Province’s squad featured three big name signings in former internationals Hashim Amla, Vernon Philander and Wayne Parnell.
Allrounder Philander, 35, had a Kolpak deal with Somerset fall by the wayside last year, while master batsman Amla, 38, joins from Surrey in England.
Allrounder Parnell, 31, last played a competitive cricket match in the Pakistan Super League in November last year.
WP’s interim CEO Tennyson Botes says of the signings: “We are proud to have attracted some of Cape Town’s greatest homegrown and adopted sons back to Newlands.
“As we go into a new era of domestic cricket, we know that their experience will be invaluable to the young talent that continues to come through our development pipelines, as we continue our success in producing players for the Proteas.
“The valuable combination of experience and youth will be the perfect tonic. We look forward to the season ahead.”
