Angelo Davids has swapped his Sevens boots for the XVs game.
Western Province on Wednesday announced that the 22-year-old former Stellenberg High scholar and Blitzbok signed a two-year contract with the union, and will focus on the XVs game full-time during this period.
Davids made his debut for the Stormers and WP in 2020, before gooiing all his attention at the Sevens game the following year.
With the likes of Seabelo Senatla, Sergeal Petersen and Leolin Zas also in the Mother City, battling for a starting berth, Davids believes he is at the right place at the right time.
The Stormers are currently preparing for their first United Rugby Championship of the year against the Bulls on January 22, while WP are gearing up for the start of the Currie Cup against the Lions next week.
Of his decision to focus on XVs, Davids says: “After working with the players and the coaches here in 2020, I know that this is the right place to grow my abilities in the 15-man game.
“I am now fully fit and ready to give it a full crack. I look forward to contributing in any way possible for the Stormers and Western Province.”
Stormers coach John Dobson adds: “We know that Angelo has the kind of X-factor that we need out wide, we saw just what he is capable of in 2020.
“Angelo’s skill set fits in perfectly with the type of rugby we want to play, so we can't wait to see him in a Stormers jersey again.”
