Western Province are sweating on the availability of prop Steven Kitshoff ahead of Saturday’s Currie Cup semifinal against the Natal Sharks at Newlands.
Kitshoff, who led the team while regular captain Siya Kolisi was isolating because of Covid-19 protocols, is now an uncertainty for what could be the final match at Newlands because of these protocols.
Kitshoff missed training on Tuesday, with assistant coach Dawie Snyman saying: “At this stage precautionary - we have to check one or two things on him.
“We will probably know by [this] afternoon if he is available.”
Pushed on what was exactly wrong with Kitshoff, Snyman adds: “It’s Covid protocols, so we just have to check his close contacts and stuff like that. “We’re waiting on a doctor’s call…”
Kitshoff is the only concern at the moment, with Snyman adding: “We tested [for Covid-19] on Sunday and everyone tested negative. The guys are also coming back from isolation after close contacts are also available.
“Injury-wise we are fully fit, it’s only the long-term injuries that aren’t available.”
