West Ham United midfielder Jack Wilshere will
be sidelined indefinitely after undergoing ankle surgery on Monday.
Wilshere started West Ham's first four games before sitting out
Sunday's 3-1 win at Everton with a sprained ankle sustained in
training.
The injury, however, was deemed serious enough for the surgery, which
the Premier League club said went to plan.
"We envisage he will only need a relatively short period of rest and
will then start rehabilitation," West Ham's medical director Richard
Collinge said in a statement.
"Jack is focused and determined to get back training and playing as
soon as possible."
Wilshere, 26, joined West Ham during the summer after his contract at
Arsenal expired.
