Italy and England will go head to head for Euro 2020 glory when they meet at Wembley on Sunday at 9pm.
Coach Roberto Mancini’s Azzurri got past Spain in a semifinal penalty shootout on Tuesday after playing to a 1-1 draw, while England needed a controversial extra-time penalty to beat Denmark 2-1 on Wednesday.
England came from behind against the Danes after Mikkel Damsgaard’s free-kick strike, with a Simon Kjaer own goal.
Harry Kane then tucked in Kasper Schmeichel’s parry after Raheem Sterling went down in the box under minimal contact.
England boss Gareth Southgate shrugged off the controversy and called on his team to win their first title since the 1966 World Cup final.
He says: “Look, we’re in the final and we have to enjoy that fact. But there’s one final hurdle we have to conquer. Finals are to be won, we’ve got to regroup, prepare properly.
“I think we’ve had three memorable games on the bounce now. We’ve said we want to create memories for the nation.”
Italy, meanwhile, are looking to stretch their 33-match unbeaten run and win their first continental title since 1968, having lost two finals this century.
Defender Leonardo Bonucci challenged his manne to get the job done, saying: “We just need to go that extra step in order to become legends.”
History is on Italy’s side with 11 wins to eight in 27 meetings, while the Poms have won just one of their last seven duels.
The Azzurri have also never lost to England at a major tournament, winning 2-1 in the 1990 World Cup third-placed game and a 2014 group-stage win by the same score.
