HARDER NOW: Blitzboks Zain Davids

Blitzboks yster Zain Davids believes they now have a target on their backs heading into the second leg of the World Seven Series in Dubai.

The defending Series champions kicked off the season in fine form, winning the first leg at the same venue.

Davids and his teammates will now cross swords with the same group opponents as they did last week - Japan, Ireland and Great Britain - and despite getting through the group unbeaten, he believes it will be tougher this time around.

Davids, 24, says: “It was six tough games last weekend, and the bodies were tired afterwards, but we had to restart and refocus on the new challenges coming this weekend.

“We cannot underestimate anyone. We have a target on our back, and everyone knows we have to work very hard if we want to achieve anything.”

Now one of the more experienced campaigners in the squad, the Capetonian surely has some knowledge to pass on to the groentjies in the squad.

Of his journey to date, Davids says: “I was fortunate to be able to play with and learn from players such as Philip [Snyman] and Cecil [Afrika]. “They, and others, helped me a lot in terms of settling into the environment so I could be comfortable and enjoy myself.”
