Liverpool were left fuming at the officials after their 2-2 derby draw with Everton on Saturday.
Celebrating skipper Jordan Henderson’s 92nd minute “winner”, the Reds’ Goodison Park Merseyside derby party was spoiled when the strike was controversially chalked off by VAR after Sadio Mane, who played in his skipper, was deemed to be offside.
By this time, coach Jurgen Klopp and his manne were already dik of the officials. This after they failed to punish Toffees goalkeeper Jordan Pickford for a horror tackle on Virgil van Dijk, who suffered what looks like a long-term knee injury, in the 11th minute.
Instead of dealing with Pickford, the VAR officials went with the original decision – offside against Van Dijk.
An omgekrapte Klopp says: “I’m a real supporter of VAR but you would expect that, especially with offside, you then make the right decision.
“We scored a goal one time at Aston Villa and they said the armpit was offside.
“This time… there is no armpit, there is nothing, we are just not offside.”
He adds: “We lost a player in a situation where VAR was not involved with Virgil [van Djik]... and scored a legitimate goal which didn’t count.”
Henderson echoes: “It must be offside with VAR, it’s what everyone wants. I think they bend the lines sometimes to make it offside. I’ve seen it before.”
Mo Salah, meanwhile, is one man who has a reason to smile today after scoring his 100th Liverpool goal.
Salah’s left-footed volley in the 72nd minute gave Liverpool a 2-1 lead after Sadio Mane
guided home a cross in the third minute, before Michael Keane’s header made it 1-1.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin headed home an equaliser in the 81st minute to take a share of the spoils.
