Coach Steve Barker’s Stellenbosch are on a seven-match winless run in the PSL Premier Division after losing 1-0 to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.
Having last tasted success when they beat TTM 2-0 on January 5, Stellies have since lost four matches and drawn three.
That run places them dangerously close to the relegation zone, currently in 13th place – level on points with TTM in 14th, but with a superior goal difference.
Barker and his men can be forgiven for thinking a trip to Polokwane against the team they last beat would help turn around their fortunes.
And they started brightly. But when Thembisani Nevhulamba tapped in from close range following a setpiece in the 30th minute, that hope faded.
The Cape team pushed hard for an equaliser, but it wasn’t to be as Barker and his men returned home without any log points.
